Hair Styles for back to school and a wedding!?

I want to cut my hair into layers. I have thick long curly hair! My cousins are coming from florida a nd they both have shoulder length hair. (one copied the other and i don't want to be seen as a follower) I also need an idea for my sister's wedding. I am a bridesmaid and I definety want my hair up. Any ideas?
