I was just wondering what the average hair stylist makes and what the average person who owns a salon makes. I plan on doing both. So just out of curiosity. Because I know at good salons in Toronto it can cost up to 200 dollars to get your hair done so the stylists must make decent money.
For anyone who knows. This is what I will have:
Diploma in Hair Styling
Diploma in Manicure and Pedicure
Certificate in Bonded haie Extensions
Certificate in Makeup artistry
Certificate in waxing
Thanks!
How much do professional hair stylists make?
it really depends on a few things
how busy you are
what you charge
what your rate of commission is
These things vary between every stylist
when you are just starting out, with very few clients, it is hard to make more than 25-30k, but dont be discouraged because after about five years or so you will have tons of clients and hopefully you will be in the sixties or more. As you become more in demand, your prices get higher, and that number can increase. it will also get higher if you can see more clients in a day, whether you are working with assistants or just working longer hours. there is really no limit to how high your salary can become. i know many stylists that make over 100k per year! Plus we haven't even included tips. (my tips are generally one third of my income.)
this has been my experience in a high end salon in a fairly large city... if you work at cost cutters the numbers will obviously be different. Much luck to you!
How much do professional hair stylists make?
if you are good at it, you will make PLENTY. many women will pay a lot for a good color and cut.
and if you own your own salon, you will be making a lot.
it doesnt really matter the education you have in it... i mean yes, you educated yourself so you know what you are doing but you have to be good at it to be successful.
i have a friend who retired at age 45 from doing hair! she is LOADED.
